After your arrival at Cusco Airport, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your hotel. To help you acclimatize to the high altitude, you will be served an aromatic coca tea upon arrival.
The morning is free for you to rest, and we recommend enjoying a light lunch at your hotel or one of the nearby restaurants.
In the afternoon, we will embark on a city tour that includes visits to the Main Square, Cathedral, Koricancha (Temple of the Sun), and archaeological sites such as Sacsayhuaman Fortress, Q’enko, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay (entrance fees to archaeological centers and museums are included).
The tour will conclude at the Main Square around 6:30 pm, giving you the opportunity to have dinner at one of the excellent restaurants in the area before an overnight stay at the hotel. Meals are not included.

After breakfast, you will be picked up at 8:15 am for a full-day excursion to the Urubamba Valley. The tour includes a visit to the colorful Indian market in Pisac, where you can experience a mix of color and tradition.
You will have some free time to interact with the local craftsmen and purchase their hand-made souvenirs. The Valley is located at a distance of 31 km (19 miles) from Cusco, with an altitude of 2,970 ms (9,700 p).
Pisac is situated at the entrance of the Sacred Valley and is followed by Ollantaytambo, one of the oldest towns continuously occupied in the American continent.
The narrow streets of Ollantaytambo, along with their channels that have not varied since the time of the Incas, evoke their ancestral heritage.
You will have lunch at a typical restaurant, and after exploring Ollantaytambo, you will take the train from the Ollantaytambo train station, which takes 2 hours to reach Aguas Calientes, where you will spend the night. (B, L)

Our trail will take us through charming villages, where we will have the opportunity to interact with the friendly locals. Along the way, we will stop for a deluxe box lunch to keep our energy up.
Continuing on, we will encounter more unique features of the trek, such as potato fields, exotic fauna, and the chance to spot chinchillas and vicunas, the only non-domesticated animal of the llama family in Peru. The stunning red mountains will also be a highlight of this part of the hike.
After hiking for approximately 5 hours, we will finally reach our destination: the Rainbow Mountains (5,020 m / 16,466 ft). As you take in the breathtaking scenery, you will have plenty of time to explore and take pictures. We will spend about 30 minutes at the top.
As much as we would love to stay longer, it is time to head back down the same way we came. The descent will take 4 to 5 hours, and our private van will be waiting to take us back to Cusco. We will drop you off at your hotel around 5-6 PM.

Frequently Asked Questions
We recommend that you leave all the luggage that you won’t need during the trek in your hotel. Most hotels in Cusco have a safety deposit where you can store your belongings, and they usually don’t charge for this service when you return to the same hotel after the trek.
However, if your hotel doesn’t have a place to store your luggage, we can also offer you a place to leave it with us. Let us know.
The sleeping mat weighs 1 kg, and the sleeping bag weighs 2 kg.
Our guides carry a first aid kit for basic medical problems, and they receive Red Cross First Aid and other emergency training every year. In rare instances when someone is unable to complete the hike due to illness, they are escorted back to Cusco, where they generally feel well enough to rejoin the group in Machu Picchu via train a few days later. Cusco has the nearest modern medical facilities, so travelers with a serious medical emergency would need to be evacuated there. Guides and porters have pre-established evacuation strategies in place should this need occur.
We provide the sleeping tents (4 season Aluminum poles tents, 2 people in each 3-people-capacity tent), dining tents, tables, chairs, toilet tents, cooking equipment, water purifiers, air Thermarest mattresses, and other camping equipment. We purchase the highest quality equipment in Peru, and older equipment is evaluated and replaced regularly.
We recommend that you carry the items you will need each day while hiking, such as water, snacks, camera, and film. Porters will carry all your other supplies, including camping equipment, clothes, sleeping bags, etc.
We generally ask travelers to bring only the belongings they will need for the trail and leave any unneeded luggage at the hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley. To prevent porters from becoming overloaded, we ask all travelers to limit their personal belongings to 12 lbs for the hike.
If you have an extra porter, they can carry all your personal stuff depending on the pottering service you have requested: Full Porter (12kg), Half Porter (6kg), and Porter to carry Sleeping bag and Pad (4 kg).
Our Quechuas Expeditions Tours guides are among the very best and most experienced guides anywhere. They are from the surrounding Cusco/Sacred Valley area and speak fluent English, in addition to Spanish and the native language of Quechua. Most have 5-10 years of experience leading Inca trail hikes, and all have training in the history, spirituality, culture, and ecology of the area. We receive rave reviews on our guides, and most of them are highly recommended by Lonely Planet and Trip Advisor. For more information, check out our Testimonials.
A cook accompanies every group on the Inca trail, and travelers almost invariably comment on the delicious menu. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and hearty snacks are provided for your hike, and meals are a mix of local specialties and international favorites.
Vegetarian meals are also available upon request, and other special dietary requests can usually be accommodated as well with sufficient notice. You will never be hungry with us, and there will be plenty of food.
